Bahauddin Arts College is one of the oldest Government Arts colleges in the Saurashtra region of Gujarat state. The foundation stone of the college was laid by Colonel J.M. Hunter on 25th March, 1897, the building was formally inaugurated by Lord Curzon, the then Viceroy, on 3rd November, 1900. The college became functional in 1902 as 'Bahauddin College'. In June 1983, it was bifurcated into two - Bahauddin Arts College and Bahauddin Science College. Shri Bahauddin bhai, Vazir of Junagadh State and Deputy Vazir Diwan Purushottam Rai Zala established the college initially to facilitate quality higher education to produce competent hands for the administration of the State of Gujarat. Initially the college was affiliated to Bombay University but later on the affiliation was transferred to Saurashtra University on its establishment in 1967. The college was recognized by the University Grants Commission and included under sections 2(f) and 12(B) on 18.6.1997.

Primarily it is an urban college however it caters to the need of higher education of the surrounding rural area as well. The college campus covers approximately 10,000 square meters. The college offers undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in all the major courses of Faculty of Arts. The total number of courses offered at undergraduate level is 10 - Sanskrit, Gujarati, Hindi, English, History, Psychology, Sociology, Philosophy, Political Science and Economics. The P.G. programmes are offered in three subjects - Hindi, Gujarati, and History.

આ કોલેજ ધાર્મિક એકતા, આશીર્વાદ તથા શિક્ષણના મૂલ્યની મહત્તામાંથી પાંગરેલ કોલેજ છે. જેમાં શૈક્ષણિક પ્રવૃત્તિના ભાગરૂપે આપણે અભ્યાસકીય તથા અભ્યાસેત્તર પ્રવૃત્તિઓ દ્વારા વિદ્યાર્થીઓમાં ચારિત્ર, રાષ્ટ્રીય ભાવના અને માનવ પ્રતિભાના ઘડતર માટે અનુકૂળતા કરી આપવામાં આદર્શ ભૂમિકા ભજવવાની છે. જેના દ્વારા વિદ્યાર્થીને સત્ય, જ્ઞાન, સંસ્કાર, માનવતા તથા પવિત્રતા તરફ વિકાસના પંથે પ્રેરવાનો તેમજ સંસ્કૃતિ અને સંસ્કારિતાની જાળવણી તથા સંવર્ધન કરવાનો છે. બદલાતા સમાજ અને શિક્ષણના પ્રવાહ, તરેહ અને ધ્યેયો સંદર્ભે ઉદ્યોગો અને માહિતીની તુલનામાં શક્તિરૂપ જ્ઞાન તરફ અભિમુખ થવામાં ખરા અર્થમાં ડહાપણ (Wisdom) સાર્થક બને છે.

હવા, પ્રકાશ, વૃક્ષો, વરસાદ, નદી પાસેથી પરોપકારના પાઠ શીખી સમાજ અને વસુંધરાના સભ્ય તરીકે શિક્ષણનું મહત્વ સમજી તેના સાક્ષાત્કાર દ્વારા વસુધૈવ કુટુમ્બકમની ભાવનાને સાર્થક કરીએ એ જ અભ્યર્થના તથા શુભેચ્છા.
